Lesson 1 Finding a Good Clinic and Doctor
The search for a good Doctor in OB/GYN is easy, once you know what to look for and become familiar with the exam procedures. The goal is to create a partnership between the physician and patient which improves your healthcare.

The Clinic

This is the first clue whether your doctor is a good fit for you. Look around, are there magazines, brochures, posters and other resources that are sex positive? Does the waiting room have information for you such as, community hotlines and referrals for support groups? Do other patients waiting have any similarity with you, such as age or gender? If you answered yes to these questions, it's a good indication that the clinic and staff are interested in providing you with a positive and open atmosphere where you will be more relaxed and more likely to communicate your concerns during your visit.

The Doctor


Typically, on your first visit, you fill out a sexual history form (if this is not an emergency). The more information you can provide here, the better your Doctor can help you. When you meet your Doctor, you should expect the following:

Of course it's always a good idea to get referrals from friends and/or family whenever possible. Remember to take your time in finding the right Doctor, use these guidelines to help in your decision. Try to relax and express your discomfort with any procedure, question or attitude you feel with your doctor. Remember, they are human too.
